Their interactions are humorous provocations in everyday life that make us smile and make us think.

Special exhibition: Cloth contact – from washing and dyeing

When: 14/03/2025 to 04/05/2025

Where: Textile and Motor Racing Museum Hohenstein-Ernstthal

The exhibition illustrates the complex interrelationships of global textile production in a creative way, making the structure of fast fashion and the industry’s business model transparent.

In the various compartments and drawers of the wardrobe, the path of our trousers and T-shirts is traced from the cotton seed and the often problematic production conditions to the used clothing bag. Ten installed audio stations, which are available in German and English, provide visitors aged at least 14 with the necessary information. Together with an accompanying booklet, a deeper understanding of the effects of the global textile and clothing industry on people and the environment is created and a critical examination of economic and political responsibilities is encouraged.

Special exhibition: Tales of Transformation

When: 25/04/2025 to 16/11/2025

Where: Chemnitz Industrial Museum

Rapid growth and splendid wealth coupled with precarious living conditions. Later a radical collapse and the necessary reinvention.

Experience the exciting development of the city of Chemnitz up to the current transformation processes. Chemnitz gave the starting signal for industrialisation in Saxony and developed into the ‘Saxon Manchester’. However, these ‘Manchester’ cities can be found all over Europe and show that Chemnitz is not alone in its challenges: the French city of Mulhouse, Tampere in Finland, Gabrovo in Bulgaria, Łódź in Poland and, of course, the eponymous Manchester in northern England. How do they deal with their industrial heritage? What strategies do the cities have for their future and what can we learn from each other?

The exhibition is sponsored by the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH.
This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament and by federal funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
