Philosophy

Construction + textile industry + lightweight construction: we combine cross-industry expertise for innovative, resource-efficient and sustainable construction.

TEXTILE AND CONCRETE?

Concrete is one of the most important building materials. However, its low tensile strength requires a reinforcement that is made of steel according to the state of the art. As steel rusts, it must be protected by 20 to 60 mm thick layers of concrete. If textile structures made of high-performance fibres are used as reinforcement, concrete coverings of 1 mm are sufficient. This enables very filigree, resource-saving constructions. Textiles and construction – two completely different fields of technology – have together created a high-performance material that opens up new possibilities for design and construction. With this in mind, the texton network acts as an association of small and medium-sized companies in the construction industry, closely networked with regional research institutions. Its work focuses on the development of practical new textile-concrete products and fibre composite construction methods.
