Curt Bauer GmbH
Bahnhofstraße 16 | 08280 Aue-Bad Schlema
Founded
In 1882, the Berlin cotton company Samuel Wolle takes over Geißler’s weaving mill, which has existed in Aue since 1867, and transfers its management to Alwin Bauer.
Milestones
In 1906, 758 workers were employed, large new buildings were erected and in 1945, 45 of the 640 looms were still in operation. Curt Bauer had turned against inhumanity in the Nazi regime – in 1944 he chose suicide. Margarethe and Alexander Bauer continue to run the family business under the most difficult conditions. | In 1957, Bauer had to accept state involvement, followed by nationalisation 15 years later. VEB Damastweberei Aue exists until 1990, employing 700 people at the end. | In 1990, Alexander Bauer applies for reprivatisation and his sons Michael and Gert Bauer take over the company. | In 2003/2004, the company creates the basis for asserting itself on the international markets with the most extensive investments in the company’s history.
